The Compass Center, a community resource center that is a part of the United Way of Hall County, is asking for donations of winter gear for its clients ahead of several cold days surrounding the Christmas holiday.
Abby Turner, director of the Compass Center, said on a recent edition of WDUN's Newsroom that the center is in need of sleeping bags, blankets, wool hats, gloves, scarves, socks, jackets and more for its clients who are not sheltered from the weather.
As of Saturday morning, weather projections for Gainesville were showing lows between 14 F and 25 F from Thursday through Christmas Day. The high on Friday is projected to be as low as 23 F, while Saturday and Sunday are expected to be 32 F, or slightly higher.
Turner said many of the Compass Center's clients are currently sleeping outside or in their cars.
Those interested in donating can drop items off at the United Way of Hall County at 527 Oak Street, Gainesville, GA 30501, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
