The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously in approval of a $50,000 pay raise for Sheriff Keybo Taylor.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the pay increase raises Taylor's annual salary to $193,000. That salary is the highest among the four most populous counties in the state.

Gwinnett County Human Resources Director Adrienne McAllister said at the meeting that the pay adjustment was determined after reviewing other nearby counties.

"A recent compensation analysis by the Department of Human Resources, and it was determined that the current salary of the Gwinnett County Sheriff is not at a level in keeping with the salaries of similarly sized counties within the Atlanta metropolitan area," McAllister said.

McAllister said Taylor's previous salary was between $10,000 and $45,000 less than the salaries of sheriffs in neighboring jurisdictions.

The AJC reports the raise is retroactive to Sept. 1. Taylor will also receive the same cost of living increases as other county employees under the newly approved resolution.
