TIGER — Despite a lopsided win in Round One of the Class A Division 1 playoffs, the manner in which Rabun County had to dispatch Dade County left a few lingering questions.
There would be no questions in the second round after the Wildcats throttled Social Circle 42-0 Friday night at Frank Snyder Stadium.
Quarterback Keegan Stover passed for 352 yards and 4 TDs to come back with a fury after struggling against Dade County. Receiver Jaden Gibson had 10 catches for 201 yards and 2 TDs, Willie Goodwyn had 4 catches for 141 yards and 2 TDs, while Lang Windham rushed for 105 yards and a score as the offense piled up nearly 500 total yards.
Meanwhile, the defense pitched its first shutout of the season and has allowed just 7 points through the first two rounds.
First-year coach Michael Davis, who said after last week not to overthink things, called Friday's effort one of the season's best.
"I think it ranks up there," Davis said. "Social Circle was a good team. We had a great week of preparation and our coaches did an unbelievable job of getting our kids ready."
The third-ranked Wildcats (12-0) will face their toughest test of the playoffs next week traveling to second-ranked Swainsboro (11-0) in the quarterfinals.
It will be a matchup of two of the top four offenses against two of the top seven defenses in Class A D1.
"We just watched a little film (Friday night after the game). (Swainsboro) is as good or better than anyone we have played," Davis said. "They are very athletic and extremely big. Very well coached. It will be an uphill battle but looking forward to the challenge."
Rabun County will be looking for its first Final 4 appearance since making the Class 2A championship game in 2017.
