Football playoffs: Monroe Area upsets No. 1 seed Dawson, 35-14

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Monroe Area proved it was worthy of a top seed in the Class 3A playoffs.

The Purple Hurricanes (6-5, Region 8-3A No. 4) racked up more than 400 yards of total offense en route to a 35-14 win over No. 1 seeded Dawson County in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. 

Monroe Area, a No. 4 seed out of Region 8-3A, ran out to a 28-7 lead in the first half to pace the win. 

The No. 1 seeded Tigers (8-3, Region 7-3A No. 1) cut the lead to a touchdown in the second quarter when Davis Glass hit Dominic LeBlanc on a 21-yard touchdown pass, but that was the closest the Tigers would get. 

Dawson added a score late in the third quarter on a pass from Glass to Doug Pagel to close the gap, of 28-14

Darrion Manuel scored TDs on 17, 3, 7, and 1-yard runs and finished with 19 carries for 94 yards. 

Quarterback Jeremiah Anderson composed 4-of-5 passes for 139 yards and a TD. He rushed eight times for 76 yards. 

Jeremy Anderson hauled in three passes for 115 yards. 

Glass finished 6-of-12 for 108 yards and two TDs. Elijah Smith rushed 30 times for 139 yards.
