A teenager enrolled at a high school in Forsyth County was killed Tuesday morning after they were involved in a car accident near another high school in the county.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened at about 7:55 a.m. on Mullinax Road near Windy Hill Drive near Denmark High School.

A Toyota 4 Runner driven by a 17-year-old was reportedly traveling northbound on Mullinax Road. The vehicle then struck the curb on the right side of the roadway while negotiating a curve. The driver overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The sheriff's office said the vehicle began to roll, and the passenger side struck an electrical pole.

A 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old was a student at Alliance Academy for Innovation.

The 17-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. The names of the two teens had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

A deputy who was working school traffic close by arrived at the scene within minutes of the accident. The crash remains under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Unit.
