A Gwinnett County man has been indicted in a human trafficking case where a 25-year-old woman was allegedly sold for sex. The Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday announced the indictment, which came from the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit.
Sean Curry, 33, of Loganville, was arrested in September. Attorney General Chris Carr said in a statement the 25-year-old woman was allegedly sold for sex at various locations throughout Gwinnett County between January and August 2022.
“The defendant is further alleged to have trafficked the victim through the use of coercion, including physical violence and threats,” Carr said.
Curry is also accused of taking financial proceeds from the sale of the victim.
A Gwinnett County Grand Jury indicted Curry on Oct. 19, after evidence was presented by the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit. If found guilty, the penalty can be life in prison. The indictment means Curry faces one count of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude. It also lists the physical violence shown to the victim.
The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office inmate records show Curry is in jail without bond. Curry was already in jail facing multiple charges, giving false information to authorities, hit and run, theft and more. This is not his first offense. Jail records show he has been arrested multiple times on various charges.
The Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit is committed to eradicating such crimes in the state.
“Our Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit is working each day to stop those who abuse and exploit Georgia’s citizens for sex,” Carr said. “Whether from a supply or demand perspective, anyone who engages in this criminal industry will be found and held accountable for their actions. All Georgians deserve to be safe, and we will continue fighting to end human trafficking in our state.”
The investigation was assisted by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Section, with assistance from the Gwinnett County Police Department.
