After a slow rise over the past month, Georgia gas prices dropped for the first time in a few weeks. According to the weekly AAA Fuel Report released Monday morning, gas dropped 5 cents compared to a week ago. The average price across the state is now $3.20 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. That’s 7 cents more than a month ago and 3 cents less than this time last year.
In Northeast Georgia, Hall and Habersham Counties have some of the cheapest gas at $3.09. Lumpkin County has the highest prices at $3.21
Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by 9 cents to $3.79. Georgia has the cheapest gas in the nation, although Texas is a close second. California has the highest gas in the country with an average of $5.75.
“The drop in gas prices is a welcome relief to Georgians,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Crude oil prices, which play a key role in determining what consumers pay at the pump continue to fluctuate. If crude remains low typically gas prices will do the same. But there’s still major uncertainty around how gas prices will trend in the weeks ahead.”
The fuel report says that gas demand is still relatively low. “Although gasoline demand is up slightly, it remains nearly 1 million barrels lower than mid-October 2021. Coupled with fluctuating oil prices, low demand has contributed to the national average moving downward.” The anticipation is that gas prices will continue to drop if the demand remains lower.
