Gainesville Fire Department division chief announces retirement

Gainesville Fire Department Chief of Support Services Division Keith Smith announced on Tuesday his upcoming retirement.
 
Smith’s final day will be Friday, Oct. 21, and a promotional assessment will be held in November to appoint his replacement. Gainesville Fire Chief Brandon Ellis will lead the search for the new division chief.
 
Smith was hired by the Gainesville Fire Department in 1993 and has served as a firefighter, driver, lieutenant, captain, public information officer and division captain for support services. He was promoted in February 2014 to division chief.
 
“I have enjoyed serving as the Support Services Division Chief and PIO for the past eight years,” Smith said in a statement. 
Gainesville Fire Department Division Chief Keith Smith's last day with the department will be Friday, Oct. 21.
