As the season continues marching toward the playoffs, Week 10 offers several key region matchups.
What will happen in Region 7-3A? Dawson County and Lumpkin County are on a collision course for a region title game on Halloween weekend. However, Gilmer stands in the way of Dawson County, and White County could spoil Lumpkin County's hopes for a shot at the title. Regardless, grab a Coke and some popcorn.
In Region 8-6A, Gainesville and North Forsyth seem to be headed for a showdown at City Park for the region title. They'll need to win this week for that to happen. If they do, get your tickets early.
Jackson County has to beat Lanier this week to keep their state playoff hopes alive.
With that said, Jacobs Media has three key region matchups on its airwaves this week.
Dacula at Buford -- Dacula enters Friday night Region 8-7A battle in a fight for a playoff spot. Unfortunately for the Falcons, they have to make a stop at Tom Riden Stadium. After last week's massive win against Mill Creek in front of 11,000-plus fans, the Wolves find themselves in the driver's seat for the region title. Will there be a hangover from last week's battle? No. The top-ranked Wolves come into the game with 7A's No. 2 defense, and with Dacula only averaging 15.14 points per game, it could be a long night for the Falcons. Buford should roll in this one. You can listen to the game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live)
Loganville at Jefferson -- Oh boy. This one has epic showdown written all over it. These two teams haven't played each other since 1987. The Dragons knocked off Loganville 47-14. Most likely, there won't be that many points scored in this one. Jefferson is giving up 13 ppg, while Loganville allows 12.5. Offensively, Jefferson averages 29.14 ppg and Loganville 33 ppg. So, on paper, this matchup is even. Will it be that way on the field? Possibly. The Red Devils like the rushing attack, with Soloman Leslie averaging over 100 yards per game. They also can pass the ball when necessary. Jefferson is more balanced with Max Aldridge executing in the passing game and Power 5 recruit Sammy Brown getting the rushing yards. This one has defensive battle written all over it. You can hear the game on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Gainesville at Shiloh -- What may not get all the press is the Gainesville defense. Ranked 6th in Class 6A, Big Red is giving up just 11.86 points per game. Coupled with their offensive output of 40 ppg, the Red Elephants are dangerous. Shiloh averages close to 33 ppg and are giving up around 18. But Shiloh is still in the hunt for the region title, and playing at home could give the advantage over Gainesville. However, Gainesville has been hot as of late and is on the same mission. Betting against the Red Elephants in this one could prove fatal. Regardless, with this one in Snellville, it could be a good one. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
