Football: Dawson County scores late to down Wesleyan

NORCROSS, Ga. — A touchdown with just under four minutes left gave Dawson County its first lead since the score was 14-10 in a 31-24 win over Wesleyan.

The Tigers scored the first 14 points of the night before the Wolves answered with 17 straight. The two teams traded touchdowns before the Tigers scored on a Davis Glass 1-yard touchdown run on fourth down to take the touchdown lead. Dawson County held the Wolves on fourth down with just over a minute left to seal the win and remain perfect in 7-3A.

Glass finished 6-for-8 throwing for 175 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 36 yards on 14 carries and a score. Dom LeBlanc caught three passes for 101 yards and both receiving touchdowns for the Tigers.

After a scoreless first quarter, Glass found LeBlanc with 9:46 to play until halftime to take a 7-0 lead. Cade Moledor doubled the Tiger lead with just over a minute to play in the first half.

The Wolves scored late in the first half to trim the lead in half before scoring the first 10 points of the second half. Trailing 17-14 headed into the fourth quarter, LeBlanc hit a 19-yard field goal to tie up the game with 10:21 to play.

Wesleyan answered just 21 seconds later with a 50-yard touchdown pass to take a 24-17 lead, but the Tigers responded with a 73-yard pass to LeBlanc to tie it back up. After forcing a punt, Dawson County drove down and scored the winner.

The Tigers will now turn their attention to hosting Gilmer next week.
