Gwinnett County cracks down on street racing

Posted 7:44AM on Thursday 13th October 2022 ( 1 year ago )
Those involved in street racing or stunt driving in Gwinnett County will now face stiffer consequences. They could actually have their vehicle impounded. The current state law does not address impounding vehicles, only fines. The county decided to take further action.

On Tuesday, commissioners approved the new ordinance allowing vehicles involved in street racing to be impounded for up to a month. In a statement, the county said “Commissioners on Tuesday approved a new ordinance that will make it more difficult to drag race on Gwinnett County streets.”

The county has already taken other measures to catch offenders, including the use of intersection cameras.

County authorities say that they are really cracking down on the street racing issue. “In May, our department along with other local police departments made more than 80 arrests on Peachtree Corners Circle and Spalding Drive, leading to at least two dozen impounds.”

Gwinnett County’s action comes on the heels of other cities such as Atlanta and Sandy Springs passing similar ordinances.
