An Alto woman has been charged in a 2021 wreck that claimed the lives of her 5-year-old passenger Lincoln Burgess and 29-year-old passenger Cynthenia Wade.
Denise Gail Wade, 29, of Alto was arrested Oct. 8, charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield.
But Burgess’ family would like to see another charge.
Jessica Burgess, who was in the car driven by her cousin and also was injured in the Oct. 29, 2021, wreck on Ga. 365 at Mt. Zion Road, said she is very thankful her 9-month-old son Hudson Burgess was spared in the wreck, but said he has a traumatic brain injury that will affect him for the rest of his life.
“We feel we are cheated by not having any charges at all for Hudson because he was so affected,” Burgess said. “In the state of Georgia, I know there's a charge for severe vehicle injury and I feel Hudson had enough injuries that were sufficient for that charge to be pressed as well.”
Hudson Burgess is now 20 months old and continues to under therapies and treatments for medical conditions resulting from the wreck.
Burgess said she understands the wreck that claimed the lives of her son Lincoln and sister Cynthenia was an accident, but believes Hudson also deserves justice for injuries that will affect him for the rest of his life.
Wade, who turned herself in over the weekend on warrants taken in June, was released on $5,800 bond.
