The Hall County Commission voted Thursday to object to the city of Oakwood's proposed annexation of a 24-acre tract of land off of Martin Road that would make way for a 90-lot subdivision.

Cajun-Dawg Land Holdings, LLC is looking to have the property annexed by the city and rezoned to R-1 and R-3 Residential. It is currently zoned in Hall County's R-1 Residential and Planned Residential Development.

The Oakwood City Planning Commission recommended denail of the annexation on Tuesday and it is scheduled to go to a public hearing before the city council in February.

Hall County District 4 Commissioner Jeff Stowe said after the commission's meeting that the county doesn't support the way the subdivision is being planned.

"They are looking at getting by with using two residential lots to connect to a big potential development and we just don't think that's the right way to go about the way they're getting to that property," Stowe said. "I believe their density is a lot higher than what we would allow at that property, so that's why we're objecting."

The objection will be sent to the city of Oakwood and if the city chooses to continue pursuing the annexation, the matter will go to arbitration.

The proposed development would be on the north side of Martin Road about halfway between J.M Turk Road and Martin Trail. Cajun-Dawg Land Holdings is looking to rezone three parcels that would stretch the project back towards nearby Falcon Crest Drive.

The Hall County Commission approved the move to object unanimously as part of their consent agenda.
