Free N95 masks will soon be offered at retailers throughout northeast Georgia as part of the Biden administration’s plan to make 400 million of the masks available for free.

Natasha Young, public information officer with District 2 Public Health, said masks will start arriving at retailers in the region during the first few weeks of February.

Pharmacies and retailers that are expected to receive shipments of the free masks include the following:

Young said those interested in receiving a free N95 mask should contact their local retailers to confirm whether they will be receiving a shipment. She said many retailers will also be limiting masks to three per person.

“Pick up those masks, it’s a national program, it’s important to make sure you are prepared for higher levels of transmission with new variants, and those kinds of things,” Young said.

Young said masking is still recommended while indoors. You should also wear masks while outdoors if you are in close contact with others. N95 masks grant the highest level of protection against the spread of the virus, according to Young.

“It has more layers, it’s able to protect people who you’re speaking to, it protects them from your respiratory droplets,” Young said. “It filters 95% of the particles within the air.”
