Sitting Lumpkin County judge, former sheriff dies

The sitting chief magistrate judge of Lumpkin County passed away Friday at the age of 63.

Randy Michael Pruitt passed away suddenly according to his obituary from Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.

Pruitt served as assistant magistrate judge from 2010 to 2012 when he was then elected chief magistrate judge. Prior to that, he had served as sheriff of Lumpkin County from 1989 to 1993 and, according to his obituary, had a long career in law enforcement that started at the age of 19.

Funeral services for Pruitt are scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2:00. According to his obituary, the family has requested donations be made in his name to Emory Healthcare.

No cause of death has been released.
