A Gainesville man has been arrested and charged in connection with two separate incidents of assault against the same woman.

Benjamin Joseph Simpson, 29, was arrested Thursday at a residence in northern Hall County, according to the Hall County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with misdemeanor battery and simple assault for an incident that took place on Jan. 14.

During this incident, Simpson allegedly inflicted an undisclosed visible injury on the female victim and threatened to kill her. A child was at the home when the crimes occured, so Simpson was also charged with child cruelty.

Simpson was also served with arrest warrants for an incident that took place on April 5, 2021. In that case, Simpson allegedly choked the same female victim and broke her foot. He is charged with felony counts of aggravated battery and aggravated assault in that case.

Simpson also faces a charge of child cruelty in that case for committing the crimes in front of a child under the age of 18.

As of this report, Simpson remained in the Hall County Jail.
