Gas prices remained the same this past week, according to the weekly update from AAA.

Georgia motorists are still paying a statewide average of $3.11 for regular unleaded gasoline, the organization stated in its Monday morning report. Monday's amount is 2 cents less than one month ago, but 88 cents higher compared to a year ago.

“Gasoline prices edged upward last week, driven primarily by the price surge in crude oil, which is closing over $80 a barrel,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA in a press statement. “As crude prices continue to climb, pump prices in Georgia will likely follow suit.”

Monday's report states demand dipped nationally last week, likely due to winter weather concerns and the COVID-19 Omicron variant, but the rising price of crude oil has helped to increase gas prices.

In the Northeast Georgia region, Lumpkin County has the highest average of regular unleaded gasoline per gallon at $3.19. Gwinnett County is among those with the lowest average price per gallon at $3.06.

Hall County motorists are paying an average of $3.08 per gallon.
