TIGER, Ga. — Rabun County has elevated offensive coordinator Michael Davis to head football coach.

The school made the announcement Thursday afternoon on Wildcat TV. Davis will replace Jaybo Shaw who left for Wayne County in December.

"The caliber of coaches that have reached out, because they want to work with you, is unbelievable," Principal Justin Spiller said during the press conference. "We wanted someone that would love our players, our students, our faculty and staff, and we wanted someone that would embrace the faith and values of the Rabun County community. We wanted someone that would invest in our community and our youth programs, so our Rabun County athletes would be able to continuously compete for region titles and state championships for years to come."

Davis was rumored to be the top candidate for the job after Shaw headed south. His offense averaged 48.6 points per game, helping Rabun County to the Region 8-2A title and the state quarterfinals in 2021.

Davis' background, however, is richer than his only year in the mountains. He spent almost two decades at Calhoun, leading the Yellow Jackets to state titles three times (2011, 2014, 2017) and 18 straight region titles, 19 overall, as offensive coordinator. His offenses averaged north of 40 yards per game.

"I'm extremely honored and humbled to be standing before you today as Rabun County's next head coach," Davis said during the press conference.

Although the Wildcats will not have Georgia-commit Gunner Stockton on the field next season, they return some solid talent. Star receiver and Maxpreps All-American Jaden Gibson (86-1878 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns) and All-State running back Lang Windham (87-812 rushing yards, 13 TDs and 664 yards receiving, 9 TDs) return as the heavy hitters next season.
