One year later, North Georgians still await sentencing in the Capitol riot

Thursday marks one year since the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

725 people were arrested nationwide, 17 of those who are Georgians that have been charged in the incident. Many of those are North Georgia residents who are still awaiting sentencing a year later.

Ronald Vincent Loehrke is a Gainesville resident was arrested just last month.. 

Glen Mitchell “Mitch” Simon, 30, from Jefferson, pleaded guilty in October. He faces up to six months in prison when he is sentenced next month.

Buford construction worker, Verden Andrew Nalley, 50, will be sentenced on March 10. He faces six months in prison and thousands of dollars in fines. Nalley entered a “guilty” plea.

There are others from our area as well, including Benjamin Harry Torre, 22, of Dawsonville, who pleaded not guilty last March. He was arrested after posting photos of himself in the capitol building on social media sites.

Jonathan Davis Laurens, 38, of Duluth was arrested last June.  He also posted photos of himself inside the capitol building on his social media page.
