A Flowery Branch man who pretended to be a landlord has been arrested for stealing COVID emergency funding from Hall County.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Tony Lamar Mosley, 48, filed applications for emergency rental funding from the county and managed to steal $20,000 before government officials became suspicious and notified law enforcement.

"Mosley was awarded rental assistance on four occasions this year. Applications for the money, which included documents, listed Mosley as the landlord for four purported rental properties," said a statement issued by the sheriff's office. "Personnel processing paperwork became suspicious after noticing the most recent application in the series included months for which Mosley had already received checks."

During the investigation, HCSO detectives determined that Mosley was not the owner or landlord for any of the properties.

Investigators began their work on Sept. 16 and Mosely was arrested at his home on Hog Mountain Road on Sept. 24. He was charged with four counts of felony theft by deception.

Mosley was released from the Hall County Jail on Sept. 26 after he posted a $66,800 bond.
