A North Georgia man pleaded guilty Friday to charges related to sending text messages where he threatened to kill U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi following the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riots.
According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Cleveland Grover Meredith, 53, of Hiawassee, will face up to two years in prison, and up to $75,000 in fines.
Sentencing for Meredith is currently scheduled for Dec. 14.
Meredith was arrested on Jan. 7 at a hotel room in Washington, D.C., after a relative contacted the FBI about text messages they had received from him.
“Thinking about heading over to Pelosi (expletive) speech and putting a bullet in her noggin on Live TV,” the AJC reported one text said.
At the time of Meredith’s arrest, the FBI searched a trailer he had been hauling and found a handgun, an assault rifle, ammunition and 10 high-capacity magazines. FBI agents also reportedly confiscated suspected THC edibles and a vial of injectable testosterone, according to the AJC.
Meredith was initially charged with four criminal counts, but prosecutors dropped the remaining charges after he pleaded guilty to the charge involving the threats against Pelosi.
