FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff coach Tommy Jones said his team is playing complementary football.
And he's right. What his defense gives them, the offense takes and cashes in. They did that on Friday in a 59-0 win over East Forsyth at Yonah Field.
Bluff padded its already crazy scoring numbers through the first three games on Friday and remains the scoring leader in all classifications.
"We talk about it all the time as coaches," Jones said on the Hardy Chevy Scoreboard Show. "We play complementary football. Our defense gives us good field position and our offense keeps moving and staying ahead of the chains."
The Bears' defensive effort was on point, allowing just 57 total yards of offense.
Jones was quick to point to defensive coordinator Chris Griffin and his staff.
"Coach Griffin does an outstanding job with those guys on defense," he said. "Those guys are flying around, zoned in and making plays. It's a fun group to watch. A lot of that is in their preparation and getting ready to play."
The Bears were clicking on all cylinders as they led 35-0 at the half.
Jayquan Smith led the rushing attack with 82 yards on seven carries and a touchdown, while Sebastian Irons was 5-of-6 for 121 yards and two scores.
Marlion Jackson was the top target with two receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown.
