GAINESVILLE — Local and area football fans bummed out by the recent circumstances surrounding the Gainesville-Flowery Branch game that was scheduled for tonight can celebrate.

The much-anticipated showdown, called off because COVID protocals for the Falcons, is back on for next Friday, on Sept. 10, at City Park Stadium.

In a statement on Friday from Gainesville Athletics Director Adam Lindsey, the two teams WILL be able to play next week after all. Originally the two schools, who both had an open date, had said they would not be able to play becuase of the five-day acclimation period required for COVID.

However, Lindsey and Flowery Branch Atletics Director Jimmy Lawler were able to work out the details to be able to reschedule the game for next week.

"The Gainesville community is excited to be able to get this game back in the schedule," Lindsey said. "The history of this game makes it very important that it be played, especially in these COVID times We know that City Park will be pumping next Friday night."
