The driver of a pick-up truck faces charges of vehicular homicide and DUI in connection with a deadly crash north of Clayton Wednesday night.

The Georgia State Patrol reported Jaime Avila-Reyes, 41, of Clayton was traveling northbound in the left lane of US 441 around 6:30 p.m. As he approached the area near Mountain Lakes Hospital, he crossed out of the northbound left lane and into the southbound lane of the roadway. His Chevrolet Silverado K150 crashed into the front of a Toyota Tacoma being driven by Courtney Faith Zajdowicz, 26, of Clayton.

Zajdowicz died in the crash. Troopers with Post 7 said she was a Rabun County Detention Center officer.

Avila-Reyes was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of injuries.

GSP investigators said it is possible the at-fault driver will face additional charges.
