Gasoline prices saw another slight decline across Georgia ahead of the Labor Day weekend.
According to the weekly price report from AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in the state is now $2.95, down a penny from the previous week. Georgia's prices are a full 20 cents lower than the national average.
Those prices, however, are still nearly a dollar higher than prices a year ago, which averaged at $2.04 per gallon.
Prices in the Gainesville metro area are also a penny lower than the state average, coming in at $2.94 per gallon. In Hall County, the number is even lower at $2.93.
AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said it is still unclear whether or not the prices will rise again before the Labor Day weekend arrives.
“While AAA is not making any travel predictions for the upcoming Labor Day weekend, this year pump prices could possibly push even lower with rising concerns of the Covid-19 Delta variant, which may cause Georgians to rethink road trips. For those who still plan to travel, AAA recommends following the guidelines outlined by the CDC and to also monitor the case counts where they plan to visit," Waiters said.
The metro area with the most expensive gas as of today is Savannah, averaging $3.04. Catoosa-Dade-Walker is the lowest at $2.81.
