FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch held on to a seven-point lead at halftime against Dawson County.
But the Falcons (2-0) quickly found its rhythm in the third quarter that jump-started their offense en route to a 31-7 win over the Tigers (0-2) at Falcon Field on Friday.
Myles Ivey started the Falcons' second-half offensive flurry with a 97-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Ivey finished the night with 165 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Malik Dryden also scored on a 13-yard run in the second half, and Marco Velazquez booted a 19-yard field goal.
David Renard connected on 12 of his 21 attempts for 169 yards and a touchdown -- a 29-yard strike to Jaheim Hayes in the first half. Hayes finished with 62 yards on six targets. Seth Larson led the Falcons in receiving with nine catches for 106 yards.
The Tigers' only score came on a five-yard run from Grindle in the second half. Zach Holtzclaw was 11-of-24 for 170 yards passing and two interceptions.
