Football: Week 2 has some interesting games on radio

Week 1 provided fans with some fantastic football, but not without Mother Nature scoring a couple of touchdowns as well.

Yes, there were lightning delays across Northeast Georgia that forced delays, and the Gainesville-Johns Creek game at City Park ended early. But it was just a minor setback as the rest of the schedule eventually finished.

This week, on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com, three games should provide fans with plenty of excitement.

North Hall's non-region redemption tour continues at The Brickyard at Lynn Cottrell Stadium on Friday when they host Stephens County. Last week, the Trojan defense held the Patriots to 14 points, while Kevin Rochester churned out 248 rushing yards to lead North Hall to the opening win, 23-14. This week, they'll try to open the season 2-0 as they host a Stephens County team that took out White County, 34-20, in Week 1. In the 21-game series, the Trojans have only one win -- 27-9 in 2004 -- and are 0-5 in the last five meetings dating back to 2010. But the Trojans remember last year's 34-0 loss at The Reservation in Toccoa and want to redeem themselves in front of their fans at home on Friday. It'll be another test for the Trojans but if they can get past the Indians, they'll be two games better than they were at the beginning of last season. You can listen to the game on WDUN FM 102.9 (Click to listen live).

West Hall and East Hall renewed its in-county rivalry in 2020, and the Vikings walked out of the Hot Gates with a 30-22 win over the Spartans. This year, the series shifts back to Valhalla and East Hall Stadium. The Vikings lead the 22-game series 12-10 and have won the last four of five, including two straight, dating back to 2001. This one should be an interesting game with the Spartans, not only coming off their best season since 2018 but a Week 1 win over East Jackson. Meanwhile, East Hall will begin the Matt Turner-era on Friday with Class 4A top-five passer Clete Cooper leading the charge. This has the makings of a classic Hall County rivalry battle. You can hear that game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

And Gainesville will travel to Chattahoochee on Friday. The Red Elephants will face one of their own as former Gainesville player and assistant coach under Bruce Miller, Mike Malone, leads his Cougars into battle against the Red Elephants for the first-ever meeting. The Red Elephants started strong against Johns Creek in Week 1, going up 10-0 in the first quarter, but couldn't find paydirt the rest of the game. The Gladiators, however, had no problems scoring, putting up 26 unanswered points to win the lightning-shortened Corky Kell Classic game, 26-10, at City Park. This week, the Red Elephants are hungry to bust through the red zone. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).

Friday Game Night will keep you in tune with all of these contests and more. Be sure to check in with us throughout the night and keep up with live scoring on Twitter: @FridayGameNight.
