Softball: Buford drops region-opener to Dacula

DACULA  — Buford could not hold a pair of early leads as the Lady Wolves dropped their Region 8-6A opener to Dacula, 10-6, on the road Wednesday.

Buford (3-1, 0-1 Region 8-6A) led 2-0 in the first inning on a RBI groundout from Emma Castorri and a RBI single by Adriana Martinez. Dacula answered with a run in the second and two more in the third to grab a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Wolves reclaimed the lead 6-3 with a four-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run double from Madison Pickens, who later scored on a Mackenzie Pickens double. But the Lady Falcons (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-6A) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Buford had a chance to tie or take the lead, loading the bases in the seventh. But the Lady Wolves could not get the big hit to drop their first game of the season.

Junior Olivia Duncan (2-1) lasted just 4 2/3 innings allowing 10 runs on 12 hits to take the loss for Buford.. Sophomore Madison Pickens finished with two hits and two RBI and scored twice for Buford. Sophomore Mackenzie Pickens had three hits and rove in one run for the Lady Wolves.

Buford gets back into region play on Thursday traveling to Winder-Barrow.
