The 2020 football season was exhausting for everyone. Stress levels among coaches, players, administrators, and those of us that cover the sport were at an all-time high.
The season was hanging by a limb. COVID-19 delayed the start two weeks. It sidelined several players, forced teams to forfeit games and even shuttered some seasons.
We enter the 2021 campaign with some uncertainty again. Already, eight games have been postponed or canceled due to COVID-19. But the season is going to kick off, and when it does, all the worries of COVID-19 will automatically go away for those 2 1/2 hours.
Pads will crack, helmets will hit and touchdowns will be scored. Teams will win, teams will lose, and the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat will last longer than any COVID-19 quarantine.
It's Friday Game Night, and it returns in just two days. We are ready to watch our area's athletes shine as they begin the trek to Georgia State Stadium in December. Sure, it's a long way to go, but it's a road worth traveling.
It's FRIDAY GAME NIGHT.
