Dahlonega man killed in Lumpkin County traffic accident

The Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver in killed in a two-vehicle accident in Lumpkin County on Tuesday as Matthew Bartils, 33, of Dahlonega.

The name of the injured driver was not released.

A two-vehicle accident in Lumpkin County Tuesday evening left one person dead and another with serious injuries. 

Cpl. Cody White with the Georgia State Patrol Post in Cumming said the driver of a passenger vehicle died Tuesday night following the crash on South Chestatee Street.

The names of those involved in the accident have not been released. 

Cpl. White said additional information will be released Wednesday.

A serious accident in Lumpkin County earlier this evening leaves two people seriously injured. The accident happened on South Chestatee Street in front of Yahoola Creek Grill around 4:40 p.m. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a car traveling south was going too fast for the rainy weather conditions. The driver lost control and crossed the center line. The car spun around, hitting the front of a pickup truck traveling in the opposite lane.

Both drivers sustained injuries. The driver of the passenger car was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Dahlonega with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

A Dahlonega resident says she had to wait nearly an hour while South Chestatee Street was closed due to the accident.
