Two elementary schools and one high school in the Hall County School District will ask students and staff to mask up for a couple of weeks, starting Tuesday, Aug. 17.

A statement Monday morning from district officials said all students, staff and visitors at Sugar Hill Elementary School will be asked to wear face coverings for the next two weeks. The school reported 10 positive COVID cases Monday morning - three students and seven staff members.

In addition, one class at Sardis Elementary School reported one staff member and six students who are COVID-positive, so that particular class will be asked to wear face coverings.

Later in the afternoon, school district officials added East Hall High School to the list after the school reported 15 positive cases - 14 students and one staff member.

The updated mask policy for those three school groups will remain in place through Monday, Aug. 30.

While the school district will release a weekly report on COVID cases, school officials said in Monday's statement they will monitor cases each day and adjust masking and other mitigation measures as needed. In the first week of school, 104 COVID absences were reported - 25 staff members and 81 students.
