Former Hall County School Superintendent Doug Winters dies at 82

Dr. Douglas Harry Winters, a former superintendent for the Hall County School District, died Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the age of 82. 

Winters had a 50-year tenure in public education, starting his career at North Hall High School as a history teacher and a coach. Winters served as principal for Chestnut Mountain Elementary School, Oakwood Elementary School and East Hall High School. He became Hall County’s Vocational Director, and then was appointed Superintendent of Hall County Schools in April 1983. He served in that capacity until January 1989. Winters wrapped up his full-time education career as Vice President of Lanier Tech, However, he also worked as an adjunct professor at Brenau University following his retirement.

A celebration of life service for Doug Winters is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville.
