Several new art installations will improve the look of downtown Lawrenceville. The City of Lawrenceville and the Lawrenceville Arts Commission just released their collaborative efforts for design ideas in the downtown area. The Arts Commission also revealed their new logo, as well.
The drawings released reveal the first two art improvement projects that will impact the look and feel of downtown Lawrenceville.
The first project is an alleyway renovation on the square. Secondly, two Depot District signs will be installed on Perry and North Clayton Streets to limit the entry of large commercial vehicles in the downtown areas.
The drawings show the alleyway design featuring gas lanterns, string lights, an entry way arch, and a paved walkway. A walkthrough will connect a public parking lot to the downtown square. The city council will vote on an official name for the alleyway at the council meeting on August 23, 2021 at 7 pm.
The Depot District signs will be arched steel structures across both roads with a height-limiting bar feature. The structures will brand the Depot District and function as an arts installation, as well.
Bids are expected to be requested on both projects in the near future. A construction timelines has not been established.
According to a press release, the Arts Commission was formed in October 2020 and has been working since that time on an overall plan to institute art throughout the city.
