A head-on collision east of Gainesville resulted in two people being hospitalized Monday morning, both with serious injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol says Clarkesville resident Brittan Earnhardt Sowers and Sebring, Florida, resident Gabriela Francine Khan both suffered serious injuries in the crash, with Khan's injuries described as "non-life threatening."

Sowers, 26, was reportedly driving eastbound on Browns Bridge Road when he failed to maintain his lane while negotiating a curve in the roadway.

Kahn, 49, was travelling in the opposite direction, and was unable to avoid Sowers' vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision.

Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest near the intersection with Whiporwill Drive.

Sowers, determined to be the at-fault driver, now faces charges of Slick Tires (Tire Requirements), Failure to Maintain Lane, and Driving While License Suspended.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m.
