A Franklin County man is the latest suspect arrested in an ongoing effort by the GBI to round up Georgians who possess and/or distribute child pornography on the internet.
Dustin Scarbro, 22, of Royston was arrested Tuesday, July 13, according to Natalie Ammons with the GBI.
"The GBI CEACC [Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes] Unit began an investigation into Scarbro’s online activity after receiving a Cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online possession and distribution of images depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM)," Ammons said in a media statement. "The investigation led to a search warrant of Scarbro’s home and the seizure of electronic devices, and Scarbro’s subsequent arrest."
Scarbro was taken to the Franklin County Jail and charged with one count of sexual exploitation of children involving the distribution of sexual explicit materials.
Ammons said the investigation is part of the ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, housed within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, to identify those involved in the child pornography trade.
