The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is kicking off its annual Food Bowl Fund PLUS campaign this week, with a goal of raising $20,000 to purchase food for rescue animals.

The primary focus of the campaign is to raise money for the food budget and provide critical care necessities for the rescues, according to a press release. Critical care necessities include vaccines, surgeries and enrichment tools.

Sam Threadgill, development and marketing director for the shelter, said in a statement that a consistent diet is extremely important for rescues.

“Many animals come to us malnourished and underweight, and living in a kennel can be stressful to animals, causing them to lose additional weight," said Threadgill. "We want to make sure rescues have the nutrition they need to not only survive but thrive, and we can only do that with the help of our supporters.”

Monetary donations will be accepted starting tomorrow until Sunday, July 18. Donations can be made online at hsnega.org by calling 770-532-6617 ext. 243. Donations can also be mailed to HSNEGA at Food Bowl Fund PLUS, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville, 30501.

Donations up to $5,000 will be matched by Cottrell, Inc. and Purina. The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia feeds its rescues Purina One as part of the Purina Shelter Champions Program.
