If you're planning to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks or a cook out at home, you'll need to use extra caution to avoid fires and injuries.
Hall County Fire Services Division Chief Zach Brackett has some tips to keep the holiday both fun and safe.
First and foremost, always use fireworks outdoors and obey local laws while purchasing and using fireworks. You can find the state laws regarding fireworks here. Don't use homemade or illegal explosives, either.
The next step is shooting and disposing the fireworks safely. Have water close by, and spectators a distance away. All spent or dud fireworks should be soaked in water overnight before being disposed of. Never put them in the trash.
When in doubt, Brackett said to use common sense.
Grilling safety comes down to three main things: grill in the right place, keep your eye on the grill at all times, and know what do in case of a grease fire.
