The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the man shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office had asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident. Friday morning, the GBI identified the man as Yonatan Aguilera, 40, of Cumming.

Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman issued a brief statement about the shooting during a press conference, which was posted to the agency's Facebook page.

Freeman said a man was threatening a woman with a weapon when his deputies responded to a call at a residence on Dahlonega Highway. He said a deputy fired at the man, killing him, as the man continued to threaten the victim.

The GBI said officers attempted to render aid to Aguilera on the scene, and Aguilera had been struck multiple times. Neither the woman nor officers were injured.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m., according to information from the sheriff's office public information officer.
