Both a person and a dog were bitten by a rabid fox in Gainesville, according to a report from Hall County Animal Services.
The incident happened Saturday, June 12 in the 2100 block of Morgan Drive. The body of the fox was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab- Virology Section in Waycross, and on Wednesday, June 16, the positive rabies results came back to Hall County officials.
The person who was bitten has started post-rabies exposure injections and is expected to recover. The dog is reported to be okay, as well.
Animal Services personnel said this is the third confirmed case of rabies in Hall County for 2021.
As is common practice, the county has posted positive alert signs in the area where the rabid fox was found. If anyone living in the area sees an animal acting abnormally, they should contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830.
