Federal funding could help residents of Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties find easier transportation. While the funds have not yet been secured, one state representative has already got ideas on how to use the nearly $20 million.
U.S. Representative Carolyn Bourdeaux (D), of Suwanee, has designed five projects affecting transportation and infrastructure, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to Bourdeaux’s plan, Gwinnett County would benefit from a new park-and-ride lot in Lawrenceville, as well as creating a bus line that would connect Gwinnett Place Mall, Sugarloaf Mills, and the Mall of Georgia.
The other three projects involve foot traffic: a pedestrian bridge in Sugar Hill over GA Hwy 20, a multi-use path at McDaniel Farm Park in Duluth, and a renovation to the Big Creek Greenway in Cumming.
All five projects together are estimated to cost $17.8 million.
The plan is to help give citizens an easier way to access their communities. The goal is to also reduce the number of cars on the roadways and help with growing pollution issues.
The funds would come from the INVEST in America Act, a $547 billion bill that the House is scheduled to vote on sometime before July 4, according to Bourdeaux.
