ATLANTA, Ga. — A pair of Georgia alums, including former Gainesville High standout Spencer Ralston, advanced to the U.S. Open on Monday.
Ralston and his former Bulldogs teammate Greyson Sigg finished tied for third place in the final qualifier at Piedmont Driving Club. Ralston and Sigg carded a two-round total of 9-under 135 to land one shot clear of the needed fifth position. Ralston birdied his final hole to avoid a playoff for the final spot.
Ralston completed his collegiate eligibility recently at the NCAA Championships having played in 51 of a possible 52 tournaments for the Bulldogs. His only other pro event was the 2020 RBC Heritage. Sigg, a 2017 graduate, recently earned his PGA Tour card for 2021-22 after winning the Visit Knoxville Open and guaranteeing a spot in the Korn Ferry Tour top 25 points standings. Sigg previously appeared in the 2020 U.S. Open.
The 121st version of the U.S. Open will take place June 17-20 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif. The field already included Georgia alums Harris English, Brian Harman, Russell Henley, Kevin Kisner, Brendon Todd, and Bubba Watson.
Sigg and Ralston were teammates at Georgia in 2017, appearing in every tournament and leading the Bulldogs with scoring averages of 70.50 and 71.56, respectively.
