A woman died Wednesday morning after a camper caught fire in North Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers said Gini Smith, 52, died in the fire at 2600 Hammond Drive.

Shivers said fire units were first dispatched to the scene just before 7:15 a.m. when they were confronted with a heavily involved camper fire. While units were en route, dispatch informed them that someone was likely trapped inside.

"When the first units rolled up, they immediately went into rescue mode because they knew that they likely had a victim inside," Shivers said.

Fire units started an aggressive, quick attack against the fire, but crews determined that the fire had progressed too far to rescue the victim.

Shivers said crews were able to extinguish the fire within six minutes of their arrival, at which time they found Smith inside.

The fire is currently under investigation. Shivers said two investigators were on site as of Wednesday afternoon.
