Firefighters with Rabun County Fire Services were busy Sunday and Monday, battling fires at three homes in the county.

Assistant Chief Justin Upchurch said crews were called just before 2:30 Sunday afternoon to a reported structure fire on Marsden Knob Drive at Vista Ridge Apartment Complex.

"The 911 caller advised that vehicles and the woods were on fire behind the residence and that the structure had also caught fire," Upchurch said in a media statement.

Upchurch said arriving crews found not only two vehicles on fire, but also the back of a 1,600-square foot residence in flames.

"The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 minutes with fire personnel remaining on scene until 6:12 p.m.," Upchurch said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and the American Red Cross is assisting the occupants.

The two fires on Monday were less severe in nature, according to Upchurch. The first one was reported at 4:55 p.m. on Electric Avenue in Mountain City. The home was apparently undergoing a remodel, and the fire was found in a void space in the attic and quickly extinguished. The other occurred at 8:25 p.m. on Shadow Mountain Drive in the Wynngate subdivision in Dillard when a deck caught fire. The main part of the house was not damaged.
