Gwinnett Sheriff being investigated by GBI

Posted 8:20PM on Tuesday 18th May 2021 ( 2 years ago )

New Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor is now being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for a possible extortion attempt.

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Taylor, who was elected in November, said the allegations surfaced last year when he was still just a candidate. The GBI wouldn’t provide any details into the investigation, but it is noted that the request came from the Attorney General’s Office last September.

Taylor also has four additional lawsuits claiming he shut down bail bond companies in the county because the owners did not donate to his election campaign. One of the companies, Anytime Bail Bonding, has even produced a video of Taylor saying that if he wasn’t supported there, he wouldn’t let people get bonded there.

Earlier this month Taylor responded to the video, saying it was misleading and had no cause to spark an investigation. Taylor has filed a motion to dismiss the federal suit.

Meanwhile, Taylor is not commenting on the latest investigation.
