Georgia 9th District U.S. Congressman Andrew Clyde joined WDUN's "The Martha Zoller Show" Friday to talk about the replacement of Liz Cheney and recent comments he made regarding the January riot at the U.S. capitol.

Clyde said the mainstream media took his comments out of context and didn't include the entirety of his statement in their coverage of Wednesday's House Oversight Committee meeting, focusing on the portion of his comments where he said the Jan. 6, 2021 raid on the U.S. Capitol should not be classified as an insurrection.

"You know, the news has been blaring out that portion of it, but this is the first part of that statement that nobody wants to talk about and it says - and I quote - 'This is the truth. There was an undisciplined mob, there were some rioters and some who committed acts of vandalism,'" Clyde said.

The North Georgia Republican said he was mainly objecting to the fact that the hearing had been titled "The Capitol Insurrection Hearing" which he said drives a Democrat narrative.

"There was no insurrection," Clyde said. "There were no firearms in the Capitol - at least not from the mob."

Clyde also addressed his comments where he said a portion of the incident looked like "a normal tourist visit."

"My statement was referring to a specific video of Statuary Hall and, of course...the mainstream news, the fake news, is never going to show you that video because if you actually look at it, you would agree with me," Clyde said.

Some new outlets, such as NBC News, claimed Clyde classified the "entire" incident as a tourist visit.
