Local nonprofit Chattahoochee Riverkeeper will host its seventh annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival this Saturday night in a virtual format.
The virtual format was adopted last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and continues with this year’s film festival. New this year, an online silent auction featuring items such as Lake Lanier artwork, a weekend getaway at the Forrest Hills Resort and Helen cabin rental with a paddle trip for two.
While the silent auction is currently open, ticketholders can login to the film festival beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and films will start streaming at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $12 per household and include access to the featured films until May 20, an entry into a raffle and an annual membership to CRK.
A total of fourteen award-winning films are in the lineup for this year’s festival. The family-friendly films cover topics such as nature, community activism, conservation and water.
“[The film festival] Is a great way to gather like-minded people…people are still gathering in their homes but they’re a part of something bigger,” said Mallory Pendleton, headwaters outreach manager for CRK. “All the proceeds do go toward our community and even if you don’t live in Gainesville or the headwaters region, everybody is connected by our watershed.”
Proceeds collected from the event will go to The Clean Lanier Equation, an initiative of CRK’s Headwaters Office focused on pollution, education and resilience in the Lake Lanier watershed.
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting good stewardship of the Chattahoochee River and its surrounding tributaries. The Headwaters Office, located in Gainesville, is responsible for managing the watershed north of the Buford Dam.
Tickets for the Wild & Scenic Film Festival are currently available to purchase. The online silent auction will close at midnight on May 20.
