BUFORD — Buford coach Megan Hill said it best after her team's 2-1 loss to third-ranked Cambridge in the semifinals of the Class 6A playoffs.

"Sometimes, things don't always go your way," she said.

And that was the case on Monday. The No. 2 Lady Wolves (20-1-1) took the early lead off Victoria Bahr's goal in the first half and had several quality possessions to extend their lead, but the Bears' (14-3-3) pressure defense and timely scores settled the playoff battle.

"Possession-wise, we did very well, but we also played a great Cambridge team," Hill said. "We knew what we were coming up against, and we tried to prepare as much as we could."

Despite the loss in the semifinals, this group of Lady Wolves finished the season -- something they didn't do last year due to COVID-19.

"Obviously, last year, we didn't get to finish the season," Hill said. "We actually finished a season with any delays and no COVID interruptions. You know, they have been through a lot of adversity, and I'm so proud of the way they came. I think because of the way our team is built and the leadership we have in the younger girls, I think we have a bright future for sure."
