The Hall County School District has announced students from kindergarten to fifth grade will no longer be required to wear masks or face coverings when in the instructional classroom beginning Tuesday.

According to a press release from the school district, K-5 students will still be required to wear masks in transitions and in common areas.

There will be no change to the indoor mask requirement for students in grades six through 12.

The release states students in grades six through 12 will maintain the current mask practice due to upcoming final exams and graduations.

"We want to make every effort possible, within the guidelines set forth by the department of public health, to ensure our students are able to be physically present for exams and graduations," the release states.

For all Hall County School District employees, masks or face coverings will now be optional in outdoor settings, unless there is prolonged direct contact. Masks are still mandatory indoors for all Hall County Schools employees.

This adjustment will be the final loosening of the mask mandate of the 2020-2021 school year. However, any decision to re-instate mask requirements over the course of the next two weeks will be determined by local and district COVID-19 numbers, and with the guidance of local health officials.
