CEDARTOWN — Flowery Branch’s season came to an end at the hands of Cedartown in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs on the road Thursday.
The Falcons (24-9 Region 8-4A No. 3 seed) struggled all day at the plate, falling 4-0 in Game 1 and a 4-3 eight-inning loss in Game 2 to the Bulldogs (23-9 Region 7-4A No. 1 seed).
In Game 1, Cedartown’s Corben Cuzzort pitched seven solid innings allowing just three hits to earn the shut-out win.
Regardless of the light-hitting effort, Flowery Branch left seven men on base in the loss.
Game 2, however, was a bit different and although the Falcons trailed most of the game, they rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, 3-3.
J Bell, who doubled earlier in the sixth inning, scored later on a K Smallwood single to left field. The score closed the gap, 3-2.
And in the seventh inning, the Falcons loaded the bases twice, getting one run home on a Kaleb Freeman lineout that scored A Bourrie to tie the game, 3-3.
But the Bulldogs Cuzzort singled in R Tanner for the go-ahead run, 4-3, in the top of the eighth inning.
Branch went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning.
