The National Day of Prayer is scheduled for Thursday, May 6, and local organizers are bringing back the Prayer on the Square event in downtown Gainesville.

Hall County Prayer is hosting the community event from noon to 1 p.m. in the center of the square. It is free and open to the public.

The hour-long event includes a time of music and prayer for the nation.

The National Day of Prayer is a yearly observance held on the first Thursday of May. People of all faiths are invited to gather corporately to pray for the United States. The National Day of prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and it was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
